Make your way to Spanish Point, on the North Shore, from Hamilton either on foot or by bus. If you decide to walk, you’ll face an easy hike of about two miles.
If you have small children, it’s better to take the bus either from the terminal on Washington Street or from the bus stop in front of the Tourist Information Center on Front Street.
Spanish Point was named for a Spanish sea captain whose ship was wrecked on the rocks just off the point. Admiralty House Park was named for the building in the park that once did service to the lords of the Royal Navy. Today the house is a community center. Two small beaches inside the park are reached via a footpath that leads downhill to the shore.
These secluded little sandy places are considered safe for all members of the family, including small children. Most of the time, perhaps due to their location, they are quiet, without the bustling crowds sometimes the bane of the beaches on the South Shore. Only during July and August when they are the venue for summer camps do they get busy it’s then that you might consider visiting a less-crowded beach.
